Our Utrecht experiance - 18.03.2011

For months we were so exited to finally get to Utrecht and see the guys play their own show. After 3,5hrs in the 1st class compartment of the ICE we were in Utrecht. Our hostel stay turned out to be somewhere close to a hell like experience but I refuse to think and further write about it...:)
The weather seemed to play along but that changed as well when we took a taxi to Tivoli 1,5hrs before the door was opened for us. It rained and it was cold. Not even that could mess up our mood. We were singing Wet Like A Dog and waited patiently. Was great fun. Through the small windows we could take a glance of Carl who was preparing the merchandise for sale. We got a smile from him and did not think of the cold and rain any more, haha.
Finally at 19:30 security opened the doors and we almost did not get in!!! I left the passports of the kids (Joy, Lily and Tanya) at the hostel so I was not able to provide the hard looking security dude with identification. I tool all my charm and ensured him that no one will drink alcohol and explained that we came all the way from Germany, so he let us in. That went well!!! Being right in front of the stage made the wait very well worth it. We were able to take very nice pictures (thanks to Lily for that!).
The show started with the supporting act Uncle Frankle. I will spare you the details. HIHI. We were able to see their set card so we were happy after each song, cause that meant it will not be long before we get what we came for: GINGER NINJAAAAAAAA!
Rasmus came on stage to get his equipment ready, and after he saw us he came and shook hands. That was very nice of him. Shows that they do appreciate their fans. This is one of the reasons why I am trying my best to give something back, cause they are very much down to earth and appreciative!
The gig started with a new song "Jealous" and I knew that this will be a great concert. Since our tinnitus experience in January in Cologne at the Dúné concert we had some plugs, but not for long. They were not necessary, as the guy play by the rules. ;)
The whole show was AMAZING. We were a little bit disappointed by the people in Utrecht but us four, we sang along and did not care much whats behind us. We got to head 3 new songs (Jealous, Boxer and Hole In My Head) and I must say I am soooooooooooooo looking forward to the new album!!!
Lily also made a few videos, so I will post them (some very short) here to share that with you if you had not seen them on Facebook already.
After the concert, we were able to have a little chat with the guys, get autographs, buy a few things and take a few pics.
Now we are counting days until 12.05.2011 when GN will play in Frankfurt.
So please be sure that I will write more!!! ;)

Ginger Ninja at Rockpalast

Wow...I must say I am extremely happy for all the new material and fottage of the guys. They seem pretty busy which is of course a good thing for them and also for us. We can enjoy their musik even if not on cd or at a concert. Thank God for the Internet...:)
The Interview is informative and Henriks Oxford English is extremely melodic, just like their musik. Very cool to watch Carl and Henrik answer those question. Funny how many times people ask about the name of the band! Btw, where were Rasmus and Johan? I also was happy to hear more of the motivation behind their musik, how they see themselves and what is important for them. I just can talk about me, but I absolutely agree, each song is different, for one song the melody moves me, gives me something deep, makes me think/feel. And at times it is the words/lyrics. The sound of the words. I often tell people when I talk about GN to listen to how the words are pronounced or some word used I haven't heard before...hahaha. Rarely I think of what did the writer want to say with the lyrics, the "story" behind it. How will I ever know unless I ask the one who wrote it. Otherwise it is just my personal interpretation. :)
Always fun to see them play unplugged! But this one was AWESOME and fun to listen to. GN are always in for a surprise. :) I just wished they would do another song at times, would hate to feel Bone Will Break Metal being worn out! Btw...where were Rasmus and Johan?!?! I think I heard Rasmus laugh after the unplugged song!?!?!

Ginger Ninja Support in Utrecht

I just found out who will be supporting GN in Utrecht:

GINGER NINJA

Support: UNCLE FRANKLE

Uncle Frankle is a young indie rock band from Utrecht, the Netherlands. Their debut EP ‘Triple A-side’, released in 2009 and produced by Jordi Langelaan (sound engineer Racoon) and Arend van der Zee (ex-manager Racoon, Birdsong Music), met with positive acclaim. The band were proclaimed Local Hero by LiveXS music magazine and played in virtually all the well known venues of the Dutch club circuit, including gigs as support act for bands like Razorlight, The Rascals and The Rakes. Uncle Frankle was even selected for the Popronde festival. With thirteen shows throughout the Netherlands they were the most booked band of 2009’s edition.

What do you think???

When did Carl join Ginger Ninja?

Dear Ginger Ninja Bloggers,
Joy asked Carl to tell us when he joined Ginger Ninja. This is what he answered:

"I joined the band in February 2008, a couple of months after the others got together. The "Ginger Ninja" constellation was complete. We began writing material right away and felt a great vibe, doing it as a team! A lot of the material came from jamming or from small parts brought to the rehearse room.
I met the guys through a mutual friend from my University called Marie. I was playing in different projects at that time, but didn't feel completely home or challenged the way I needed. When I heard the raw demo material the guys had made in the previous months, I saw a great potential and a place for ideas to evolve and great opportunities to have fun!"

Thanks Carl! You are at home now!
Sanja & Joy

Without Carl (does not seem right!)

MUCHHHHH better!!! ;)

Can you imagine Ginger Ninja without Carl?
